What is Compulsive Gambling?

Compulsive or Pathological Gambling is a progressive impulse disorder in which an individual has a psychologically uncontrollable preoccupation with an urge to gamble.

As compulsive gambling progresses consequences are seen in the psychological, social , vocational and family domains.

Compulsive gambling is further characterized by a chronic and progressive inability to resist the impulse to gamble.

Pathological Gambling was first diagnosed and recognized by the American Psychiatric Association in 1980 and published in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual.
